Selous and Ruaha
Located in the south of Tanzania, Selous and Ruaha areas may be less famous than their counterparts elsewhere in the country, but between them host some of the most impressive nature and wildlife anywhere on the continent. Despite improvements in transport and access in recent years, these reserves are still true hidden gems when it comes to safari destinations.
The perfect short-stay safari
Selous is one of the largest protected areas in the world, and within its frontiers live one of the largest populations of African elephants on the entire continent. Across it’s 50,000 km2, you’ll discover a diversity of habitats: forests of miombo trees, meadows, swamp and marshland, and a corresponding diversity of wildlife. Here you’ll find elephants, hippos, giraffes, cheetahs, lions, kudu, sable antelope, buffalo, and African wild dogs, as well as a verified 350 different species of birds.
Smaller, but no less diverse, Ruaha National Park covers 13,000 km2 and is one of the few places on Earth to view native species such as the Roan antelope as well as kudu, elephants, lions, leopards, cheetah, crocodile and up to 571 species of birdlife.
Five reasons why
Making memories. A safari is simply an unforgettable experience. Having the privilege to explore some of the planets’ last remaining wilderness, and seeing the wildlife and countryside first hand, feels like being inside a nature documentary. Truly a one of a kind experience.
Perfect pictures. The sheer natural beauty of the landscapes, and being able to observe the unique wildlife up close, makes this a perfect experience for photographers of all levels.
Escape the mundane. For most, travel is an opportunity to break out of our routines, to disconnect and engage with the wider world. On safari you’ll be completely in the moment, away from screens and distractions, giving you the escape you need to return, recharged and energised.
A different concept of luxury. Even though you’ll be far from civilisation, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the quality of service and amenities you’ll receive, even on the most isolated campsites. The reduced capacity of all our accommodation and personal attention you’ll receive will make you feel right at home.
Sheer Inspiration. For many of our customers, the landscapes, wildlife and cultures they’ve encountered have helped to inspire them in their professional life; from architecture, music, fashion to inspiration for novels. We’re convinced that if you’re facing a block, a safari in Africa will give you the push you need.
In the heart of Selous and Ruaha
Our campsites are located in the best possible location in the heart of both the Selous Reserve and Ruaha National Park. Each campsite has a maximum of 8 rooms and offer the perfect base from which to partake in walking, jeep or water safaris, as well as the chance to explore further with fly camping expeditions. All this combines to offer a second to none opportunity to explore two of the most exciting regions in eastern Africa.
