In the southernmost region of our planet lies a vast territory spanning 14 million square kilometers, with the unparalleled ice landscape. Welcome to Antarctica, the seventh continent. Despite its vast expanse, it was the last region on the planet to be discovered, and a place to live truly unforgettable experiences.

The Seventh Continent

Antarctica harbours a rich diversity of wildlife that inhabits its glaciers, mountains, bays, fjords, inlets, pebble beaches, and rugged coastlines. Depending on when you wish to travel and what you’d like to see, there are various expedition options available.

From October to December, Antarctica is blanketed in ice, with penguins busy laying their eggs. If you visit from December to late February, you’ll witness the hatching of penguin chicks. From mid-February to March is the ideal time to observe whales, as they return to the region to feed.

Depending on what you want to see, you can reach various destinations in Antarctica by boat, boat-plane charter, or private plane. Most boat expeditions depart from Punta Arenas in Chile or Ushuaia in Argentina. When traveling by boat, depending on the route you choose, you may get to cross the famous Drake Passage, an 800-kilometre stretch where the Atlantic, Pacific, and Southern Oceans converge. A true rite of passage for many travelers.

Sail, Fly, Enjoy

Crossing the Drake Passage by boat takes 2 days each way. If you prefer to avoid it, you can opt for an expedition by charter flight from Punta Arenas to meet the boat. You will then complete the journey by boat, and return to Punta Arenas by flight.

If you desire a completely exclusive ultra-luxury experience, there is a private flight that specifically visits an Emperor penguin colony in the northwest of Antarctica. The journey departs from Cape Town in South Africa, where you will take a private flight across the Antarctic Ocean to reach Antarctica. Once in Antarctica, you will take a ski-plane flight to reach the Emperor penguin colony.

Some expeditions take you across the Arctic Circle by boat or even provide a flight option to the Geographic South Pole, landing at the Amundsen-Scott Station, the southernmost point on Earth. It’s a place where there is no East, South, or West, only North, and you can circumnavigate the globe with just a few steps.
