In the heart of the wild, the most arresting oasis in Africa
The Kalahari presents an unrivalled opportunity to observe and photograph the diverse wildlife that lives on the savanna, as well as visiting one of the last remaining indigenous tribes in this part of Africa, the Saan people or ‘bushmen’. Please be aware that due to migratory patterns, Planeta Azul only travels to this part of Botswana during certain months of the year, coinciding with the best time to spot a large number of diverse animals and wildlife.
Another location in Botswana, teeming with life year round is the stunning Okavango Delta. This unique wetland, formed where the Okavango river meets a tectonic trough, offers unequalled opportunities to see over 400 species of birds and diverse land mammals, from elephants to wildebeest, lions to antelopes.
With a similar topography to the Okavango delta, Linyanti, as well as being a prime destination to spot all of the big mammals, is also one of the last refuges of the endangered African Wild Dog. With over 90% of recent viewings occurring in this area, Linyanti is the perfect location to spot this rare, but magnificent animal.
Travel between camps in Botswana takes place using light aircraft, giving you a birds eye view of the terrain across the different locations, and allowing you to take in the splendour of the landscape from above, as well as from the ground.
And talking of high points, your Botswana experience will end with a visit to Victoria Falls, where, depending on the time of year, you can enjoy the sunset over this natural wonder from aboard a boat on the River Zambezi.
