A country of idyllic landscapes and gentle people, which houses one of the world’s architectural gems – the Angkor temple complex. Although starting to attract attention, this awe-inspiring structure is still largely unaffected by mass tourism, and is just one of many reasons to visit the country.
Angkor Wat: the largest religious structure ever created.
Until their recent re-discovery only a few decades ago, these intricately decorated temples, built by the Khmer Kings between the 9th and 13th centuries were completely hidden in the Cambodian jungle. The easiest to access, and most spectacular of the temples are Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon and Banteay Srei. Of these Angkor Wat, dating from the 12th century, and the national symbol of the country, is one of the world’s man-made wonders, and a destination that should be visited at least once in a lifetime.
